Reverend James Douglas Clay, was born March 3rd, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois, the 6th child of the proud union of the late Fred and Nellean Clay. He attended the Chicago Public Schools until moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1981, and graduating from Samuel C. Mumford High School in June 1982. In 1983 He enlisted in the United States Army and served for 4 ˝ years. Upon return to civilian life, he started his career, and has worked for many Fortune 500 Corporations, inclusive of ADT, AT&T, Comcast, DirecTV, and Time Warner.
During his years in Detroit, he first confessed Christ at the Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. Charles G. Adams. After returning from military service, he joined the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago under the pastorate of Dr. Stephen John Thurston, and acknowledged his call to the ministry in February 2005. In August 2005 he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee and united with the St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. George T. Brooks, Sr.
A graduate of the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible Theology and a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, he has been married 17 years to the former Teana LaShae Thomas. They’re the proud parents of two children, Jamese LaShae and James Douglas Clay II.
With God using him as His servant, Reverend Clay was called to the pastorate of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago in November of 2009 and served there faithfully until May 2013.
On Sunday, June 30th, 2013, Reverend Clay was elected Pastor of the New Visions Baptist Church. Ready, able, and willing, Pastor Clay looks forward to serving God’s people in this critical time…….
